AICTE-FDP-201x "Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process Face to face Interaction"

Dronacharya College of Engineering,Gurgaon conducted face to face interaction of two week (14th September - 12th October 2017) AICTE approved Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process - FDP201x” under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission for Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), MHRD, Govt. of India on 16th - 17th September 2017.
The FDP programme focuses to empower the teachers, lacking skills and compentencies for proper and effective use of ICT in education, to use technology effectively in order to enhance the quality of education. The teaching faculty of the online programme were the experienced faculties of IIT Bombay. The participants who have successfully qualified the “Foundation Program in ICT for Education (FDP-101 x)” from 3rd Aug to 7th Sep 17 were eligible to attend the FDP-201X “Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process".
FDP Program consists of three Modules
Online work by individual participants: Participant is expected to acess the online platform ,with an online test every week. Participants has to spend 6 to 8 hours of efforts per week. The activity will be spread over 5 weeks- Thursday 14 September 2017 to Thursday 12 October 2017.
Face-to-face interaction- The participants physically attended the sessions at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon. It had a focused interactive sessions between the faculty from IIT Bombay and the participating teachers. Second Face to Face Interaction activity will be conducted on the 7th and 8th October 2017.
Team Assignment: Teams of 3 to 5 members will be formed amongst the participants at each RC. Each team is required to create and review the assignment, and submit the same online. Here again, each participant has to spend adequate effort, albeit in a coordinated manner with other members of the team.
Day 1: 16th September 2017, Saturday
Mr. Jayakrishnan M(IDP in ET, IIT Bombay) inaugurated the FDP with his address to all the faculty members from different colleges participating in the program. Participants from different remote centers shared their various challenges they faced during updating their video lectures in Moodle with Mr. Jayakrishnan.
He further communicated with many remote centers and addressed their various issued regarding all the previous activities that were performed during last few weeks.
Dr. Sameer Sahasrabudhe (Dept. of CSE, IIT Bombay ) took the problems of many participants at various remote centers and motivated peer review amongst them. He also gave guidance on various mechanisms to increase collaboration using A-view interaction.
In the session, Prof. Sahana Murthy(IDP in ET, IIT Bombay) introduced the various technologies and methods required to move from 20th to 21st century teaching learning environment. The facilitator mainly cleared the doubts of various faculty members of the FDP programme from various Remote Centers across India.
The last session of the day was the "Lab Session" conducted by Mr. Jayakrishnan M. In this session participants were required to complete an assignment based on WordPress and Padlet.
Day 2 : 17th September 2017, Sunday
Mr. Shridhar Iyer (Dept. of IT, IIT Bombay) took the first session of the day on “Integrating videos and simulations in Teaching-Learning”. Mr. Iyer displayed Ballon-cart video and conducted a quiz as an example on active learning with visualization. Facilitator also explained the use of active learning with screen-cast. He utilized the active learning strategy of “Think-Pair-Share” to make the faculties understand the usage of videos. The facilitator cleared the doubts of various participant faculties from different remote centres.
The next session was on “Utilizing Moodle for Higher Order learning outcome”. The session was facilitated by Mr. Jayakrishnan M (IDP in ET, IIT Bombay). During session facilitator first explained the concept of “Triangle of effective teaching-learning”. The session helped faculties in understanding effective use of discussion forums.
During session Prof. Deepak B. Phatak (Dept. of CSE, IIT Bombay) also explained “Mechanism for collaborative teaching work” and stressed such collaboration must prevail among faculties and students and within faculties also.
The third session was regarding “Answering Queries” by Mr. Jayakrishnan M (IDP in ET, IIT Bombay). Different remote centres across the country raised their queries and cleared their doubts. Main queries of the faculties were regarding the assignments submission on 16th September 2017 in the FDP programme. The session was very productive as it cleared the doubts of the faculties and helped them to reinforcing their concepts.
The last session was the “Lab Session” which was based on the concept creating open educational resource. The lab session helped the faculties to understand the tools like word press in a better way.
Overall the face-to-face interaction of the FDP programme was conducive and enriched the knowledge of the faculty members enrolled in the programme.
